About
Line of Sight Heritage are experts in the management of heritage places. We specialise in undertaking heritage assessments, providing strategic heritage advice, and preparing Heritage Impact Statements (HISs) to support the issue of heritage permits.
Heritage Assessments
Line of Sight Heritage are experts in the heritage assessment process at both a local and state level. We take pride in producing carefully researched and well crafted assessments and providing clients with strategic advice so that they can identify and manage any issues that may arise – for example the nomination of a place to the Victorian Heritage Register (VHR). Over the past three years, we have undertaken a wide range of assessments for both government and private sector clients. These include: The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA), Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA), Heritage Victoria, Court Services Victoria (CSV), City of Melbourne, City of Port Phillip, City of Boroondara, and RMIT, as well as a number of individual developers and home owners.
Heritage Permits
Line of Sight Heritage recognises that the best way to protect a heritage place is to ensure that it has a viable future use. We are experienced at working with both government and private sector clients to guide the conservation, restoration and re-development of heritage places. Our knowledge of both local and state heritage controls and the statutory approval processes enables us to provide high-level advice to help inform sensitive development. Since its establishment in 2019, Line of Sight Heritage has worked to support the re-development of a wide range of residential and commercial properties. Clients include: CBUS, UpCo, Molonglo Group, Urbis, Lend Lease, Cardno, Architectus, CHT Architects, David Hicks Architects, John Wardle Architects, Parks Victoria and Bates Smart.
Historical Research and Interpretation
In addition to providing advice to developers, we also undertake historical research to help owners/ managers of places understand them better and to support the development of interpretative material. In 2021 we delivered a detailed history of the development of the High Court building of Australia in Canberra, which supported the development of a variety of interpretative tools, including a series of podcasts that can be downloaded from the Court’s website – https://www.hcourt.gov.au/about/the-building.
