Our studio’s approach to the delivery of a project is holistic and collaborative, working closely with clients to understand their brief, enabling us to facilitate design, conservation and heritage services that address the specific needs of our clients and the heritage fabric.
We engage in applied conservation of heritage buildings providing our clients with highly specialist expertise in conservation, architecture, and materiality.
For many of our clients we provide a ‘hands on’ approach to the management of projects including: the scoping and preparation of projects at concept level through to delivery of construction and beyond. Whether preparing strategic documents or architectural documentation, we provide a broad range of services including tendering and construction services, heritage approvals processes, studies and assessment and advisory services related to the conservation and management of built heritage.
Our experience in the scoping and preparation of conservation works documentation packages includes a wide range of masonry rendered buildings, such as Government House, 640 Bourke Street and most recently Malvern Town Hall. In the past 15 years we have delivered façade repairs and upgrades as part of many of Victoria’s and Australia’s premier heritage conservation and restoration projects.
Our philosophy of conservation for built heritage is derived from the principles of The Burra Charter. Our unique perspective on conservation informs our designs and results in a sensitive approach to an existing site. By applying the conservation principle of reversibility, we focus on minimising intervention and whilst we understand that some loss of heritage fabric maybe inevitable, we seek to maximise retention of existing buildings and enable their continued use.
Since establishing Conservation Studio in 2019, we have enjoyed re-establishing many client relationships with refreshed enthusiasm for the delivery of their projects. These renewed relationships have helped us establish a rapidly growing practice at the forefront of conservation in Australia.
As a business, we enjoy the challenges of new projects and establishing new client relationships, reinforcing our business model – focused on return business. We understand the value this can bring to a project and a client – ensuring business continuity and continuing engagement provides us a level of insight into long-term corporate knowledge founded in continued interaction with clients and projects.
