We are fascinated by extending the life of the old, providing excellent new design for the present and ensuring robust futures.
Purcell is an Employee Owned specialist architectural practice working predominantly on bespoke architectural projects for end user clients. We aim to create places of high architectural quality, which delight their users, are economic to build, and are delivered to meet our clients timescales and budgets. We also want to provide buildings which are inclusive and accessible to all.
We work as one family of many experts: architects, designers, heritage leaders and specialist consultants. Ideally placed in regions covering Asia Pacific and the UK, we undertake projects across eight core sectors; cultural, education, hospitality, places of worship, public, residential, transport and commercial.
Clients come to us when they need to make sense of their project. These complex scenarios often involve sensitive historic sites, listed buildings and admired places. We guide their transformation, and help clients to build new structures, sustainable adaptation in the reuse of existing building, and create new spaces through bespoke design. For over seven decades, we have been making sure that our clients’ buildings are designed for use today and for future generations.
With our strong commitment to quality, our international team of Architects, Heritage Consultants and Masterplanners collaborate on some of the most significant buildings across the world. By offering a diverse range of services and by bringing our experience of enhancing existing and new buildings environments, we deliver considered solutions, conservation repair strategies and contemporary designs for our client’s evolving needs.
We have experience working with major stakeholders in the historic environment, including consent authorities, government and commercial asset owners and educational institutions. Our experience spans heritage‐listed buildings and heritage precincts. We have demonstrated experience of delivering sound heritage outcomes across Local, State and UNESCO World Heritage Sites from project inception through to completion.
The practice provides a full service, encompassing condition surveys, conservation management plans, maintenance schedules and specialist historic buildings advice. We undertake project work from inception through development of the brief, concept design, detailed design, preparation of production information, contract administration and inspection of work on site. We are expert at working in intricate urban centres, arresting rural landscapes and the historic built environment. From Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage Arts in Hong Kong to a sustainable new home for a private client, whether we’re breathing new life into a historic place or building for the future, design vision, technical expertise, attention to detail and embedded sustainability are the hallmarks of our approach.
Maintaining significant values of heritage places while identifying their viable and sustainable future is central to our philosophy.
